The People Who Make it Possible

Volunteers’ Week runs from 1st to 7th June each year, and Bell View marks it every time — because there is no week of the year that more precisely captures what this organisation is built on.

On Wednesday 3rd June, from 2 to 4pm, Bell View welcomed its volunteers for a celebration afternoon: a chance to step back from the doing, to be appreciated rather than to appreciate others, and to spend time in the company of people who share a commitment to this community that goes well beyond anything that could be required of them. The afternoon was a proper celebration — Pimms and non-Pimms, a light afternoon tea, and the wonderful David Brewis, whose singing was, quite simply, the perfect accompaniment to the occasion. Our heartfelt thanks to David for giving his time and talent so generously.

Bell View’s volunteers are its heartbeat. They bring skills, energy, kindness and continuity that no organisation could purchase, and they give it freely — in the small moments as much as the visible ones. A conversation that lifts someone’s day, a lift to an appointment that makes the difference between someone coping and not coping, a familiar face at a café table. The cumulative effect of all that quiet, consistent care is something remarkable, and it deserves to be celebrated properly.

To every volunteer who joined us in June, and to every volunteer who was unable to make it: thank you. Bell View would not exist without you.
