Cornhole, Soft Archery & More!

Some evenings just have a particular energy about them — a room full of people who have come along not quite sure what to expect and who leave having had, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best nights in recent memory. Our recent games evening was exactly that.

The line-up was impressive: Cornhole, Soft Archery and Kurling took centre stage, with Bell View’s own Air Hockey table and Table Tennis adding to the mix. It sounds, on paper, like a slightly unlikely combination. In practice, it turned out to be a recipe for an evening of brilliant, good-natured, occasionally very competitive fun.

Competitive is, in fact, something of an understatement. The Cornhole boards barely had time to cool between rounds. The Soft Archery produced some extraordinary displays of skill — and some equally extraordinary near-misses. The Kurling was contested with a seriousness that would have impressed any Scotland skip. And around all of it there was laughter, encouragement, and the particular joy that comes from watching someone discover they are unexpectedly very good at something.

Evenings like this matter because Bell View is, at its heart, about connection. It is about making sure that people across our wide and sometimes isolated part of north Northumberland have reasons to come together, to get to know their neighbours, and to feel part of something. A games night might sound like a small thing, but the conversations that happen over a Kurling stone or a Cornhole board are often the ones that matter most.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support and enthusiasm of Karen and Lynn from Northumberland County Council, who deserve enormous thanks for everything they brought to the evening. We are very grateful indeed, and we hope this is the first of many such evenings together.

If you missed this one, keep an eye on our events calendar — there will be more.
